こんにちは。皆様、ゴールデンウイークは如何お過ごしでしたか。
大型連休も明け、５月に入りました！今月第１回目のメルマガは
英会話キッズ教室担当のPhil先生のお話です。
I awoke this morning and realized that we had arrived. I had a
suspicion yesterday, as I led my friend on a tour of Kyoto.
Despite a cool morning breeze, the sun had held-out. The evening
was gorgeous. This morning looked to be more of the same. That
45 day span of nice springtime weather had arrived.
I never used to care about the weather. In California, the weather
is typically good if not great. In fact, Californians rarely speak
about the weather because it is so consistent. Not so in Japan.
Here, the weather can be bitterly cold in winter and stiflingly hot
and humid in summer. Commenting about the weather is a staple of
casual chit-chat and weather forecasts are both frequent and necessary.
Californians leisurely enjoy a life of sunshine, world-class wines
and produce, and scenic locales. In contrast, folks living in Japan
can enjoy the beneficence of nature only briefly. Yet, the eight or
nine months of poor weather give us a greater appreciation for spring
and autumn. There is a great push to enjoy it fully before it
disappears. There is a recognition that time is moving.
When you feel time moving, you can be surprised at how quickly a year
passes. Hastily doing things makes it difficult to stop and reflect.
However, when the time arrives for reflection, we can be blessed with
the sense that we enjoyed spring to the fullest. The contrasting seasons
make our memories more vivid and nostalgic. They give us something to
welcome each year on days like today.

医学統計は、医学薬学分野の翻訳やトライアルに頻出しており、この分野の
翻訳者にとっては必須の知識です。統計を知らない方を念頭に置いて、医学
統計の基礎から分かりやすく解説していくとともに、実際に統計の記述を含
んだメディカル文書を教材として使用しながら理解を深めていきます。

［翻訳夏期セミナー・短期講座］
■バイオ実験ツアー 7月11日（日）13：30～16：30
バイオ分野やメディカル分野の学習は、本を読んだり講義を聴いたり、
座学だけではなかなか理解するのは難しいものです。そこで、この
「バイオ実験ツアー」では実際に実験を行い、バイオテクノロジーに
ついての理解を深めていきます。
実験内容：DNAの抽出
本実験では生物試料からDNAの抽出および精製を行い、
アガロースゲル電気泳動法および分光光度計（紫外部吸収法）
を用いて物理化学的な性質を解析します。電気泳動ではゲノム
ＤＮＡの大きさ（分子サイズ）、紫外部吸収法ではＤＮＡの
濃度および純度を確認します。自らが選択した生物材料から
どれくらいの量と純粋な遺伝子（ＤＮＡ）が抽出できるか、
その大きさはどれくらいかを確認します。
場所：東京バイオテクノロジー専門学校
